Honestly, without more development of the alien stuff, that whole revelation means not a whole lot. Do you guys remember those birds that fell from the sky a couple of years ago?
Not great, but not awful, either, and if Inheritance is good, it might get a sort of retroactive adaptatioon for setting all this shit up. The Kingdom, meanwhile, is falling to pieces around them.
Adaptation (Adaptation, #1) by Malinda Lo
No trivia or quizzes yet. What I got from Reese’s relationships and attraction is that gender does not have ,o be a factor in determining who you’re attracted to, not a main factor.
She is too wilful; too fierce, and too protective of herself, to be any other way. The way this was resolved felt dated and unworthy of the creativity in the possibilities implied by the early chapters. In true post-apocalyptic fashion, the three of them opted to travel by land, getting waylaid by the pandemonium malinca by the uncertainty surrounding the strange events.
Her analysis showed that 15 percent of New York Times bestselling young adult frer featured main characters of color, 12 percent featured LGBT main characters, and three percent had main characters with disabilities. Malinda Lo is the author of several young adult novels including the sci-fi thriller Adaptation ; the sequel, Inheritancewill be published Sept. Which brings me to my next point: It’s all very intriguing and I liked how those elements were tied in, I just once again wish that the characters had a bit more to them so I could have latched on to their desperation.
Malinda lives in Northern California with her partner and their dog. This time David and Reese are taken to a completely different secret military base to be involuntarily experimented on, and the goal becomes escape. The trio manages to rent a car and on their drive home, an event of unspeakable violence sets Reese and David on a manic drive along an empty stretch of road in the middle of Nevada. Basically Reese discovers that the advanced medical procedure has given her Wolverine-esque adaptatjon powers, as well as the ability to, er, feel people tree the frre when she touches them.
The ending oh god, that ending ll right—though I dare not spoil it, and people may disagree with me. I am glad I waited a while before picking this one up, though. Across North America, flocks of birds hurl themselves into airplanes, causing at least a dozen to crash. Reese and her debate team partner and longtime crush David are in Arizona when it happens.
Reese has got to be one of the most annoying characters to exist in the book world. But what does develop between the near-Sage and growing-Warrior is still beautiful, often humorous, and real. I sometimes felt that the lulls in the middle of the book were stretched out a bit too long though, as the storyline did get a little boring. Amber has a bit more oomf than the other two characters combined, but still feels more like a stock figure than a fully fleshed out person. Reese, her debate team partner David and their teacher are at the airport on their way back home from a debate competition in Arizona when reports start to show that across the USA flocks of birds have hurled themselves into planes causing several of them to crash.
Aug 13, Katherine rated it it was amazing Shelves: I see so many people praising this one for character work, and I didn’t feel that upon reading it.
It imagines not only queer teens in the past, but how they might have found happiness there. It’s not problematic, but it’s a change up in the speed.
It can be hard to admit that a book I really liked and that really impacted me emotionally is flawed. There were conspiracy theories that circled all over the internet and news fgee that had something to do with either weather, fireworks, the Mayan apocalypse and invisible UFOs.
Flocks of birds are going crazy everywhere. Moving on to the actual narrative, the premise that is unsurprisingly overshadowed by the romance, things are interesting though the entire secret that the book is built on is not really as surprising as I was hoping it would be.
Very sci-fi, X-Files feel with government cover ups and conspiracy theories. While the world is changing around Reese, while she feels that something might be different with her own body, she’s also exploring her own sexuality, at odds with the crush she’s had on David and the new and compelling Amber Gray.
Part love story, adaptatoon thriller, part sci fi, Adaptation is a great young adult page-turner that keeps you guessing and packs a lot of excitement! This was an extremely quick read for me! As a SF native and current resident it was really fun to read. Malidna of people die. Some parents …more There are several episodes of kissing, hugs and touching between both young women and men.
Basically, Reese fred utterly non-threatening in every imaginable way.
Preview — Adaptation by Malinda Lo. Reese and David free stranded in Arizona due to FAA’s grounding of all flights in and out of the country.

The sequel will be out next year. To ask other readers questions about Adaptationplease sign up. And so on and so forth. It goes beyond a stereotypical Love Triangle of Doom by actually engaging with the possible scenario of falling malindaa love and having a relationship with two people at the same time. Overall, I found this story intriguing and interesting, but incorrectly marketed. Considering I have the attention span of a goldfish, I suppose there’s something Adaptation has to offer that’s worth checking out.
