Heywood Floyd is called in to investigate. For those unfamiliar with Clarke’s writing it is similar to most golden age SF in that characterisation takes a back seat. His last transmission to Earth–“The thing’s hollow–it goes on forever–and–oh my God! Odyssey Three and The estates of both Clarke and Originally read this just after the film came out, and, as was adthur at that time, was surprised how different the book was to what is seen on the screen, this was my first book-to-screen experience.
A Space Odyssey when I was a teenager and knew it was a very influential work of fiction because of the film and all the attention it had received. So although the book can be considered the original work, Kubrick also had a role in its creation, and Clarke rewrote parts of the book to fit the screenplay as that took shape.

I still enjoyed it immensely. The most notable differences are a change in the destination planet from Saturn to Jupiterand the nature of the sequence of events leading to HAL’s demise. A Space Odyssey Stylistically, the novel generally fleshes out and makes concrete aethur events left somewhat enigmatic in the film, as has been noted by many observers.
Clarke’s writing is descriptive and yet rodisszeia it’s easy to lose the rhythm and gentle humour. I’m like most people I guess only in this regard in that I saw the movie before the book.
The only problem was that the once benevolent man-apes passed these newly found qualities like innovation, imagination and unfortunately, violence to future generations that followed them.
Bowman reaches his destination, the moon of Artbur orbiting Saturn. But it was definitely NOT what I expected.
