Tec gives voice to dissenting opinions among the surviving partisans along with the prevailing and positive view held in the Bielski otriad. Tuvia was commander of the group, which was linked to Soviet partisan groups and struggled for existence from both Soviet and Nazi threats. It’s an inspiring story, unevenly written and told and one that stillleft me wanting to bielskii more than Tec was able to portray. It felt dry and factual – reading at times more like a history book than being in the lives of the partisans experiencing their hardship, fear and drive to survive.
This allowed him to continue his mission of protecting Jewish lives and engaging in combat activity, but it would prove a problem later on.
