Lack of anything resembling a narrative drive, run-on sentences, walls of text much longer than Ali’s, long paragraphs, prose that often requires concentration, medical terminology and detailed anatomical descriptions, very curious goings on with Palinuro being multiple characters and narrator all at once – this book presents several reasons against reading it. I think I’ll pocket another quote –this one deftly cited by Megha: Con remordimientos y sin sentido.
I can see why instantly, as in palinyro first 20 pages this already goes looping and dipping through such a range of experience, history, and medical anecdote.
OUTRAGEOUS GEMS WAITING TO BE MINED IN `PALINURO OF MEXICO’
Lacking any sort of coherent structure and plot, the novel is largely a series of infinitely interesting sexual episodes between the narrator and his cousin in their infinitely interesting apartment interspersed with some lively pranking done by the narrator and his medical school buddies e.
For Del Paso, the rhetoricizing of experience is everything. Heck, the Australians are pretty darn good when it comes to dd, case in point: Want to Read saving…. What Palinuro of Mexico taught me about reading it was to be in the moment.
Most women who read the romantic paean to Estefania that makes up all of Chapter 4 will probably yearn for such treatment for themselves.

Your grandmother Altagracia was told by Robin Hood. Makes you laugh out loud it’s so beautiful, reminds you what it’s like palinueo be young.
Throw in a bit of Joyce too and you will get a pretty good picture what Del Paso is up to – its a hell of a ride to be sure, especially if you love tons ep medical details and have a strong stomach.
The book is filled to the brim with such comic extravagances, but it’s so dense with language and so thin in story that many readers won’t stay with it long enough to find most of its enjoyable material. The titular character is, at dee, both narrator and subject sometimes he narrates about himself in the third person —a medical student in passionate love with his cousin Estefania.
