In his newest book, Aczel (Fermat’s Last Theorem) discusses a great mystery in physics: the concept of entanglement in quantum physics. He begins by explainin . Amir D. Aczel, Author. Our group was somewhat split in its evaluation of this book.
A very accessible introduction to quantum entanglement, this book had me laughing entangelment places at the repeated Dad-jokes about people being entangled, and the section describing the ongoing battles between Bohr and Einstein was pretty exciting. You can tell entanglemet the author becomes muddled in his thinking as he searches for other explanations based on the results of the latest research into the topic.
Bill Nye and Corey S. In this case, the particles may be “entangled”, so that a measurement of one particle will instantaneously determine what will be measured of the other particle, even if entanglemeng two are millions of light-years apart when measured.
The Dreamer and the Doctor. Thinking Like a Mountain. I have read more interesting and thorough explanations of entanglement, but aczrl serves as a decent introduction to the phenomenon. This part of the book requires much more careful reading than the first half, but it’s well worth the effort. It is obvious that this cannot be explained in any meaningful way to those of us who are used to thinking in terms of large particles — those bigger than any aczeo by quantum theory.
In short, the book is strongly biased in an idealist philosophical direction. Books of the Week. Retrieved from ” https: I am not comfortable with the degree of assurance the author presents, not about entanglement itself, but about how entanglement fits into a larg A reasonable introduction to quantum entanglement.

There is a long history of disputes about how to do this, including as a major part of the long debate between Einstein and Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg and their allies.
In this book I liked the mini biographies of the major quantum players. The diagrams were nice, but the text should have explained more adequately what was going on in the various experiments, ehtanglement in other words how to more fully understand those diagrams.
While the book won’t satisfy dedicated science buffs, it will be an accessible entry into this concept of quantum physics. In fact he had to force himself to read it. Inhe became a research fellow at the Boston University Center for Philosophy and History of Scienceand in Fall was teaching mathematics courses at University of Massachusetts Boston.
Dec 18, Jim rated it really liked it Shelves: This is one of his best books. Maybe I was just looking for something else, but this book unfortunately comes up very light on substance. He was a lecturer in mathematics and history of mathematics. Oct 01, Stan Paulsen rated it really liked it Shelves: She thought some of the repetition was useful. Kevin agreed that the experiment diagrams were helpful, and overall he thought the book was well written and pretty clear.
Plight of the Living Dead.
ENTANGLEMENT: The Greatest Mystery in Physics
I thought it was a good read, but would have preferred the book to go into more technical detail concerning its applications. Aczel has appeared on more than 30 television programs,… More about Amir D.
Thus Spoke the Plant. He rated it a 7. Feb 28, Stephen Hackney rated it it was amazing. Also, it seems to me to be common knowledge that Grete Hermann called Neumann out for false assumptions before anyone else had the guts, or cleverness, to, and yet, she gets no mention in this book. The coverage of entanglement itself goes through interesting experiments, but the interesting results and what they mean, how to interpret them, gets lost in explaining the history and setup to the experiments, without even doing a worthwhile job of describing what each part does.
Einstein, Relativity and the Expanding Universe. Making this book interesting is the colorful scientists like Bohr, Heisenberg, Fey This is a quick, easy read with an enlightening high-level overview entajglement the mysteries and advances in understanding quantum entanglement.
Also by Amir D.
Aczel was born in Haifa, Israel. Not a bad thing, but if you read this book hoping for some actual information about entanglement from a scientific viewpoint, you’ll be disappointed.
Aczel explores how a Star Trek —like teleportation may be possible via entanglement however, a particle’s quantum state, not the entire particle, is teleported to its matethough perhaps at the expense of demonstrating entanglement’s more real-world applications to cryptography.
The reality is more bizarre than what even the best mad scientists can come up with. More By and About This Author. I am altogether happy that there is now a book on entanglement, almost 70 years after its discovery, and recommend it to people interested in the historical background and practical implications of quantum mechanics A reader can feel confident of entznglement book’s accuracy in dealing with these topics, since the author spent quite a lot of time discussing the experiments with ebtanglement number of physicists who actually performed them.
Unfortunately it is out of date, and I would really like someone else to publish a companion piece detailing the last 16 years of research.
This early history occupies the first half of the book, so that readers who’re already familiar with the history may become impatient to get to the more recent “good stuff”.
I am not comfortable with the degree of assurance the author amit, not about entanglement itself, but about how entanglement fits into a larger cosmological scheme. Download our Spring Fiction Sampler Now.
