While they are very different books, I was not disappointed. The prose is solid, the story sentimental without becoming treacly, and the characters believable. The National League East has six teams contending, among them the traditionally hapless Chicago Cubs, soon jinxed once again when its first baseman is injured. Unfortunately, I can very much relate, s I like to assign the tag “24 hour read” to grrisham that only take me a day to get through.

Often his characters would break with their original descriptions. This book shows the results of that in a wonderfully, emotionally, literary story!
It is so close to reading like calic true story it makes one want to do research to find more information about the fictional Calico Joe.
