The author seems determined to put down every other Christian in a way that can only be interpreted as painting himself as more righteous. Ascribing these issues to “modern times” makes Packer sound at best more cantankerous doos he needs to be, and at worst like he’s writing borderline nationalist propaganda pining for the good old days.

Explaining both who God is and how we can relate to him, Packer divides his book into three sections: He even stops grumbling about “kids these days”! Although I appreciated some of the concepts- I thought it was a very dry read. Both are self absorbed, one dependent conociend their own feelings about God and the other on lofty thoughts. Knowing God does expand your world, remove boredom, and set on fire a desire to love, honor, and obey Him.
