With his wife, Vivian Kerman, he wrote the widely used textbook, Listen first published in and now in its 7th edition co-authored by Gary Tomlinson. He sketches the work of prominent scholars and theorists: Contemplaing note, much of the book is filled with name dropping and discussions on the research of others.
This book is written in very contmplating terms by a professor, to other leading members of musicology. Joseph Wilfred Kerman — born Zukerman — – was an American critic and musicologist. Critical essays written by Kerman from the late s to the early s are ierman in his book, Write All These Downwhich takes its title from a phrase in one of William Byrd’s songs.

Kerman has become one of my favorite writers on music, with a style not only cohe Don’t be krrman by the arid title and hideous cover, or put off by the admittedly frightening term musicology.
Kerman, the son of an American journalist, was born in London and educated at University College School there. Refresh and try again.
