I didn’t like branching out into new things, a trait which has stuck blune me in some form to this day. It’s just too far out of the understanding of most children whose grandmothers would be Deenie’s age for this to be in any way helpful.

Deenie: Book Summary
I learned a lot of different things that people go through by reading Judy Blume books. She receives thousands of letters a year from readers of all ages who share their feelings and concerns with her. Sheila Shotwell Gone Before Spring. Every person should read this book and hopefully the knowledge of it will be out there for girls who are like me. I read this as a vlume and had to get it for my own scoliosis brace wearing pre-teen.
Thanks for telling iudy about the problem. When the scoliosis appears, it seems to come as a punishment for her attitudes toward the less-than-perfect, and ends up compelling her to befriend those with physical disabilities.
Deenie’s relationship with her mother is a major plot line, but I recalled none of it. Lists with This Book. Both Deenie the girl, and Deenie the book, have very little spark.

Her mother and Aunt Rae were stereotypical stage mothers, though I loved her father and sister. Pre-teen life was complicated and weird, but by addressing it so straightforwardly, Blume made it feel a bit more manageable. At the time, they were revolutionary, but today they seem just randomly stuck in the book, and they are sort of like a slap in the face– appearing with no explanation and then not really addressed again.

It’s a great set of messages that all young people need to hear and many of us adults, too. She is eleven years old.
It’s also weird how the father is always the one to drive to important appointments and Library copy Books date. So Deenie has scoliosis and has to wear a brace. Fearful that Helen hates her because Thelma’s excuse for letting Joe go was because of the family’s doctors’ bills, Deenie is astonished to learn that Helen refuses to blame her for Joe’s departure, and the sisters close ranks.
I rate this book 4 stars because it teaches you alot about what people go through and how they feel. Deenie holds hands with a boy at a movie and blmue makes out with him at a dance. Though initially upset at having to wear the body brace, Deenie eventually resigns herself to her fate.
