It is quite amazing how well this book has aged, it’s concepts are still whole and can easily be merged with other works of political science and sociology to form a powerful ‘lens’ to understand happenings around the world.

Very interesting use of historical examples. Keeping this emphasis on political action and the laws of peactice in mind, Galula develops a comprehensive strategy for dealing effectively with hot insurgencies. The other book I was reading at the time – Horne’s history of the Algerian war — was far superior, although this book is fairly well known in military circles.

I found Colonel Galula’s book even more relevant now, than after my first read.
