When I found out that they had written a book, I jumped at the chance to read to find out more about the creator. Zombies, tequila, spirits, hellhole, Demon Goillaz, ghosts, demonic possessions and 2D’s cockney accent – what more would you need?

The front cover of the book, when flipped sideways, is a silhouette of Murdoc Niccals ‘ pet raven ‘Cortez’. I think a main strength in this book is the silliness behind it, and the idea to just roll with it.

So on the surface it’s a biography of one of the greatest bands of our generation, but ends up taking you for quite a trip. While I gorilkaz only recommend this book to hardcore Gorillaz fans, I can definitely say it should show a little bit of insight into the offbeat nature and musical style of the group to nonlisteners and a look into Jamie Hewlett’s great art.


Let’s see how long it takes to get a copy first. The three stars is based on what I did actually read.

Why did I read this? And with super shitty vision, I gave up trying to read the tiny print. They “think” they’re real. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account.

Fortunately, I found a PDF version! As booi fan of Gorillaz, Rise of the Ogre was a must-read for me. I wont reveal anymore about the book, but for a fan who wants more of the gorillaz, or just a better look into the characters, this is a must have.

British profanities are also used. Looking for beautiful books? Granted, all this is done in a spirit of dry humor or are too cartoony to be realistic but may be deemed as crude by sensitive readers. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. Definitely a worthwhile read for any fan of the band!

Giving booj character backstories that are not only clever and interesting, but also tie into the real world and even the creators themselves. You have to adore the torillaz to enjoy this book.
