I liked this aspect of Alera, to often books of this kind the lead woman character is so strong and things just happen because they can. Critical reception for the series has been mostly positive. Nur mal so ein Beispiel: I think I have to beg Cayla for a book only about him!!
A description that took up an entire paragraph. Very patriarchic, with a King and long beautiful gowns and Knight tournaments I’m incredibly impressed with how Kluver has written leegacy story thus far and will be anxiously waiting to see how she concludes this fantastic series.

I’m even holding out a teeny tiny bit of hope that some of the guys legaacy get a shot at narrating! I thought she wanted to be viewed as someone capable and equal to men. I tried to avoid major spoilers and hide anything that might be spoilery, but you WILL get some spoilers for the first book.
The wonderful thing is that in the process, the two becomes the same. Overall, I felt this story’s strongest point was the time and energy the author put behind imagining this world.

Alera also has no ladies-in-waiting, and every queen in history has had those. Did the writing improve? He seems to be so romantic and sentimental.

It didn’t improve near the end. Life was harder in those days and no one could afford to be superfluous.

Everything else I could give a pass, but Alera makes my stars shrivel up and die. I loved everything about Legacy and I love everything about Allegiance.
And uh, just to clarify, most people who get stabbed in the stomach die in medieval settings, because, you know, there’s the little problem of human anatomy with intestines and infection and uh, exactly how does this guy know that Narian hasn’t killed him from the stomach wound? There are quite a few impressively done scenes that has just the right tone and feel for a city and kingdom under seige by the enemy and the desperation comes right through.
It is an epic tale of forbidden love, loss, responsibilities, war, dark mysterious legends and two kingdoms so different from each other! Could not get through this one–needed a lot more editing. The ending of this book was just unbelievable, I am in aw, I don’t even know what to say, with out giving to much a way.

Also, it felt like many things were explained to death. Her troubles are compounded by the fact that her only suitable “suitor” is Steldor, a caricature of a narcissist who can’t stop kluve about himself.
